The street of the Św. Ducha was closed on both sides by gates. From the side of the Targ Drzewny it was closed by the Ludwisarska Gate, dismantled in1806. The Holy Spirit Gate was leading to the port on the Motława River. Both gates for security were formerly closed. Middle the street section near the Basilica of the Blessed Virgin Mary was known as the Targ Chlebowy. Most of the areas located at Św Ducha street belonged to the Church.
